PROGRAM: Individual and Family Services

POSITION DETAILS: Full-time Regular, 1.0 FTE


The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) is a child and youth mental health centre integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). GH-CCMH is also a core service provider within the Toronto region of Child and Youth Community Mental Health Providers.  As such, the Centre has an ambitious agenda to provide the highest quality evidence-informed care offering a range of services from prevention and early intervention through counselling and therapy, assessment and intensive supports. Services are provided in both in-person and virtual formats. As an employer, the Centre strives to reflect the many diverse cultures and identities represented in the children, youth and families we serve and seeks to provide an inclusive and equitable workplace. We are currently seeking applicants for a full-time permanent 1.0 FTE Clinical Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Participates in the development and implementation of operational plans that flow from the strategic plan
  • Provides leadership and guidance in developing and carrying out changes as part of continual Quality Improvement plans
  • Identifies and responds to staff and operational needs and escalates issues, as appropriate, to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Supervises staff within the Individual and Family Services department, interviewing and hiring new employees, carrying out performance appraisals, directing the training, development and succession planning of staff and carrying out disciplinary actions
  • Makes decisions within established clinical treatment policies, procedures and best practices referring unusual or unique situations
  • Acts on behalf of the assigned Manager during absences


Clinical Supervision

  • Supervises day-to-day clinical services provided by staff to clients through monitoring the implementation of treatment plans, case management, referral services and the delivery of clinical services to clients ensuring adherence to College and Accreditation standards
  • Supervises case crisis and identifies potential risks in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical treatment trends, best practices and policies within the industry
  • Reviews incident and serious occurrence reports handling complaints
  • Responds to crisis calls, clients with escalated concerns or client grievances


Direct Service

  • Ensures provision of individualized assessments, treatments and follow-up services for individual/family/group therapy and treatment
  • Ensures provision of case management, liaison and referral services for clients
  • Coordinates services with internal and external service providers requesting and reviewing existing documentation and reports to inform client service and treatment planning
  • Ensures the development of service plans that support treatment planning in collaboration with family, supervisor/manager and inter-professional teams
  • Provides academic training and teaching to students and volunteers, as required



  • Master’s degree in social work or equivalent and a minimum of three years’ related supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability lead and motivate employees
  • Membership with a professional association such as Ontario College of Social Work, or College  of Psychotherapists
  • First aid, CPR, Non-violent Crisis Prevention and/or Intervention and Understanding and      Managing Aggressive Behaviour certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively deal with all levels of staff and clients
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to coordinate complex crisis situations and solutions
  • Ability to incorporate values of a culturally competent practice of diversity and inclusiveness in all aspects of work
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as ability to use office equipment efficiently (telephone, photocopier, scanner and fax)
  • Ability to work flexible hours and, on occasion, travel



  • Complies with the organization’s vision, policies and procedures
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management


Vaccination Requirements:

As a health care centre, our highest priority is the safety of patients, families and staff.  As a result, we are adopting all prevention measures to ensure the safety of our clients, families and our staff.  Therefore, any offer of employment is conditional upon proof of full vaccination with a Health Canada or World Health Organization (WHO) approved COVID-19 vaccination no later than fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the effective start date. Should there be an exemption of vaccination based on a medical, or human rights reason, proof will need to be provided, in addition to participation in regular COVID-19 testing based on exposure risk as well as participation in vaccine education. All offers of employment are conditional on meeting these minimum requirements, failure to comply will lead to offer of employment being immediately rescinded.
