Certificate in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) level 2: Application to specific populations
This certificate programs builds on foundational cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) knowledge. The aim is to help professionals apply CBT strategies to specific clinical populations. Each webinar (module) will help conceptualize specific conditions through a CBT-based framework.
Participants of this five-day program will learn how to conceptualize cases for specific common and complex mental health conditions. They will understand how to apply and implement cognitive and behavioural strategies and techniques for specific mental health conditions.
Upon completion of this program, Certificate in CBT level 2, participants will have completed 30 hours of continuing education that will be recognized by the Canadian Psychological Association and may be applied towards the required 40 hours of formal training in CBT as part of the CACBT Certification process.
This webinar will examine the physiology of the anxiety system. Drawing on the work of many experts, it will outline an integrated CBT model to explain the development and maintenance of anxiety disorders through well-researched principles of behavioural conditioning and cognitive science. Participants will discuss an integrated CBT treatment protocol that will be applicable to the vast majority of anxiety disorders.
The first part of this webinar will focus on CBT models and conceptualizations of GAD. It will address cognitive restructuring techniques, including adaptations to thought records, probability re-estimation, and challenging beliefs about worry. Participants will examine behavioural techniques that are successful with this population.
The second part of this webinar will focus on CBT treatment for OCD. CBT treatment for OCD is highly behavioural. The focus is on exposing clients to obsessive thoughts, while modifying and eliminating their compulsive behaviours. This training will focus on CBT conceptualizations for multiple presentations of OCD. Presentations such as obsessions and compulsions related to contamination, checking, counting, and disturbing images and urges. The facilitator will illustrate cognitive techniques to challenge obsessional thinking, as well as the utility of compulsive behaviour.
This webinar focuses on the assessment and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with prolonged exposure therapy (PE). PE is an evidence-based cognitive behavioural treatment and is widely considered to be the gold-standard for evidence-based trauma focused treatment. The webinar will provide an overview of the assessment of PTSD. It will look at differential diagnosis of other trauma-related disorders as well. The focus will be majority on evidence-based trauma-focused treatments for PTSD, with an in-depth examination of PE. The facilitator will explore the outcome literature, treatment rationale, and step-by-step application of the actual treatment protocol.
This webinar will examine a CBT conceptualization of psychosis. Participants will look at common misconceptions regarding the suitability of this population for psychotherapy. The facilitator will explore an overview of the treatment rationale and CBT strategies that are most helpful for these clients. Participants will have an opportunity to examine some of the outcome literature highlighting the effectiveness of CBT in treating psychosis.
This webinar will examine a cognitive conceptualization of bipolar disorder. The facilitator will discuss common misconceptions regarding the suitability of this population for psychotherapy. Participants will gain an overview of the treatment rationale and CBT strategies that are most helpful for these clients. They will have the opportunity to examine some of the outcome literature highlighting the effectiveness of CBT with this clinical population.
