Educators, support staff, and mental health professionals play a crucial role in supporting students during stressful times. Traditional approaches that focus on identifying problems can be discouraging, necessitating a shift in mindset. Brief therapies offer a more efficient method by emphasizing students’ existing competencies and fostering small successes to build a sense of agency.

This training introduces brief therapy practices to school professionals, focusing on practical skills for facilitating supportive conversations and fostering positive change. The program includes didactic presentations, group discussions, and hands-on practice through small group exercises as it explores:

  • The shift in mindset that is favourable to working under time constraints
  • Methods to elicit and build off the many skills and abilities students bring with them to these situations
  • Different ways to talk about problems that open new possibilities and foster cooperation
