The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) is a child and youth mental health center integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). GH-CCMH is also a member of the Thriving Minds Mental Health Access Collaborative with CAMH and SickKids and a core service provider in the Toronto sector of infant, child and youth mental health services funded by the Ministry of Health (MOH). GH-CCMH provides prevention, early intervention and health promotion services across the city, funded by MOH and other sources. As such, the Centre has an ambitious agenda to provide the highest quality, evidence-based care, offering a range of services from prevention and early intervention to counseling and therapy, assessment and intensive supports. Services are offered in person and in virtual format. The Systems Administrator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, ongoing development, and support of the organization’s IT infrastructure and systems. This role ensures reliable, secure, and efficient technology services across all sites, providing both hands-on onsite and remote systems administration support organization‑wide. The Systems Administrator implements infrastructure solutions, maintains core systems and services, supports cybersecurity controls, and acts as an escalation point for complex technical issues. This role also provides onsite and remote technical support and device provisioning.
Key Responsibilities:
Systems & Infrastructure Operations
- Administers, monitors, and maintains servers, cloud services, identity systems, and network services to ensure availability and performance
- Performs routine system maintenance including patching, updates, configuration changes, and performance tuning
- Monitors system health, logs, and alerts; troubleshoots and resolves infrastructure issues
- Maintains accurate technical documentation for systems, configurations, and procedures
Infrastructure Projects & Improvements
- Implements system upgrades, enhancements, and new deployments
- Provides technical implementation guidance and leadership for IT projects and initiatives
- Participates in testing, validation, and change management activities
- Researches and recommends operational improvements and emerging technologies for consideration
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Provides onsite and remote technical support to end-users
- Acts as Tier 2/3 escalation support for issues escalated from other ICT colleagues
- Supports users with complex hardware, software, system, and connectivity issues
- Coordinates with ICT colleagues to ensure consistent service delivery across sites
Device Provisioning & Asset Support
- Prepares, configures, and deploys new computers, mobile devices, and related equipment
- Manages device imaging, configuration, and hand‑off to users
- Assists with inventory tracking and lifecycle management of IT assets
- Coordinates device replacements, upgrades, and secure decommissioning
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Implements and maintains security controls in accordance with policies and standards
- Monitors systems for security alerts, vulnerabilities, and unusual activity, escalating incidents as required
- Supports cybersecurity audits, risk assessments, and compliance activities
- Applies secure configuration practices, and identity and access management processes
Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity
- Administers backup systems and schedules; performs routine backup verification and recovery testing
- Supports disaster recovery procedures and documentation
- Assists in recovery efforts during system outages or incidents
Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Works with external vendors for support, maintenance, issue resolution
- Assists with gathering technical requirements from internal stakeholders
- Communicates system issues, maintenance activities, and service impacts clearly and professionally
Other:
- Complies with the organization’s vision, policies and procedures
- Adheres to privacy, security, and IT-related regulations and best practices
- Supports continuous improvement and professional development
- Performs other tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- Minimum three to five years of experience in system administration with a post-secondary degree in Information Technology or related field preferred
- Recent certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, CompTIA Server+ or Security+, preferred
- Familiarity with ITIL‑aligned incident and change management practices
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft‑based environments (Windows Server, Azure, Microsoft 365, Intune)
- Experience with identity and access management, DNS, DHCP, core networking concepts
- Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell)
- Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure administration practices
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
