After the Journey: Practical theory and practices for supporting psychedelic integration
Explore a four-part framework for supporting psychedelic integration across body, mind, relationships, and daily life.
In this training, Dr. Adele Lafrance introduces clinicians to a four-part framework for supporting psychedelic integration through the period that follows a psychedelic experience. Drawing on current research in neuroplasticity, trauma processing, and relational psychology, participants will learn how to approach integration as a layered, ongoing process unfolding across body, mind, relationships, and daily life.
In addition to exploring bias, this training examines four distinct domains of integration: the psychological work of metabolizing what arose during the journey itself; the practical and relational tasks of returning to roles and responsibilities; the psychotherapeutic opportunity created by the post-session neuroplastic window; and the neurobiological dimension, including how sleep and nervous system sensitivity are thought to influence what becomes possible in the weeks that follow. The training examines each domain through both a conceptual lens and a clinical practice lens. Time permitting, the training will also address ruptures between client and clinician during the integration period.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the four domains of psychedelic integration — psychological, relational/practical, psychotherapeutic, and neurobiological — and describe possible interventions within each.
- Recognize how personal and professional bias may shape a clinician’s approach to psychedelic integration. Articulate how awareness of bias informs more effective support.
- Describe conceptual frameworks linking neuroplasticity and nervous system sensitivity to the post-session integration window. Explain their relevance to clinical timing and pacing.
