Mealtimes can be overwhelming … for both child and caregiver! Eating is a multisensory experience, where sensory systems (touch, smell, taste, vision, hearing, and body awareness) work together to shape a child’s experience with food.
In this workshop led by occupational therapists, parents and caregivers will develop an understanding of the sensory systems and how they impact the feeding experience. From there, caregivers will learn how common feeding challenges are rooted in sensory differences, such as avoiding specific food groups, only eating certain brands, having a limited food repertoire, eating past the point of fullness, or seeking out certain flavours or texture. Together, we will build practical, play-based strategies that can be applied at home to gently build your child’s comfort, curiosity, and confidence with food.
When: May 5, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Ages: For parents/caregivers of children 2 to 12 years
