Navigating the political climate with 2SLGBTQIA+ clients

Support 2SLGBTQIA+ clients more effectively by understanding the impact of political systems, fostering resilience, and navigating complex realities with care.

Working with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and other marginalized groups can be incredibly difficult within the existing political environment, as clients’ concerns are often focused on external factors that we may not have control over in session or out. This session will help you better understand some of the issues facing the 2SLGBTQIA+ population and how you can help them navigate a time of uncertainty and fear in the wake of changing political climates.

This training is led by Michelle and Jennifer, two experienced psychotherapists who work primarily with the transgender and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Jennifer is based in Ontario and Michelle works in the UK; together, they co-facilitate a variety of workshops through Trans Atlantic Training that equip clinicians with inclusive, affirming approaches for working with 2SLGBTQIA+ clients.

Learning objectives:

  • Explore the current political climate and its impact on the queer community.
  • Discover effective ways to support clients through uncontrollable external events.
  • Highlight hope, build safety plans, and center client values in your work.
  • Help clients regain a sense of empowerment and control.
  • Navigate legal implications in the workplace while protecting yourself and your clients.

Register now to gain practical strategies to support 2SLGBTQIA+ clients facing fear, uncertainty, and systemic challenges in today’s political climate by build skills in safety planning, legal awareness, and values-based care.

Prerequisite: Participants should have some knowledge of 2SLGBTQ+ populations and terminology.
