The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (CCMH at SickKids) is a child and youth mental health centre integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). CCMH at SickKids is undertaking an ambitious agenda to establish a revitalized academic community mental health centre that provides the highest quality of care, combined with excellence in teaching and community-based research. CCMH at SickKids is located across two sites in Toronto and offers both in-person and virtual care to clients and their families, from prevention and early intervention through assessment, counselling and therapy and intensive services. We are also connected to the continuum of mental health services for children and youth supported by SickKids: the Brain and Mental Health Program, the SickKids TeleLink Mental Health Program, the SickKids CCMH Learning Institute and our online resources through AboutKidsHealthFind out more about CCMH at SickKids.

We are seeking applicants to fill a full-time regular position as a Child and Family Therapist with our Intensive Services for Youth program. The applicant should have specific interest and experience working from an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed lens.  The Child and Family Therapist provides direct mental health treatment services, including individual, family and/or group treatment to clients within the context of the family, school and community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Therapeutic Services

  • Provides individualized, assessment, treatment and follow-up services
  • Provides case management, liaison and referral services for clients
  • Coordinates services with internal and external service providers, requesting and reviewing existing documentation and reports to inform client service and treatment planning
  • Collaborates with the family, the supervisor, and inter-professional teams in the development of a service plan and to support treatment planning
  • Facilitate therapy groups for youth, and families
  • Completes all client documentation (including, but not limited to, contact notes, service plans, treatment reports, incident/serious occurrence reports, referral forms, etc.) in a timely and succinct manner meeting agency, professional and legal requirements
  • Promotes the direction of the program and Centre by engaging in identifying, developing and implementing program goal(s), projects or services
  • Participates in relevant meetings, reports regularly, and as required to the designated supervisor
  • May provide services both in-office and within client’s homes and communities

Other

  • Complies with the organization’s vision, policies and procedures
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management

Working Conditions

  • Concentration and creativity required daily to prepare documents, listen, attend meetings, mediate conflicts, develop treatment plans, etc.
  • Sits at a desk and in sessions with clients in order to perform the duties of the job, as well as move objects or lift books for filing

Qualifications

  • This position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in a mental health discipline (if from outside Ontario, must demonstrate that all registration requirements can be met at time of hiring)
  • Registration with the relevant accrediting professional body is required
  • Minimum 3 years related experience in children’s mental health treatment, including working with adolescents
  • Experience and understanding of issues of marginalization and oppression are necessary to work in this role
  • Skills related to the treatment of clients presenting with complex needs
  • Good problem-solving skills to analyse complex client issues and recommend solutions
  • Demonstrated skills in therapeutic engagement and interventions
  • Ability to apply a cultural humility lens and values of equity in all aspects of work
  • Ability to use computer software tools and resources, such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

As a health care centre, our highest priority is the safety of patients, families and staff.  As a result, we are adopting all prevention measures to ensure the safety of our clients, families and our staff.  Therefore, any offer of employment is conditional upon proof of full vaccination with a Health Canada or World Health Organization (WHO) approved COVID-19 vaccination no later than fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the effective start date.
